Most players think of mimics as chests. 3D print a door mimic miniature to catch them off guard.
Hi everyone, I’m sharing my latest 3D printed project for D&D: a door mimic! This model is part of a series of mimic models designed by mz4250. The models are available for download on Thingiverse.

The 3D Model
The model for the door mimic is part of a collection of mimic models designed by mz4250 on Thingiverse.
Other models in the collection include:
- Bookshelf mimic
- Toilet mimic
- Piano mimic
- 2 kinds of door mimics
- Chest mimic
Print Time
I used my resin printer to print the door mimic. With the tilt angle, it took about 5 hours to print.
I printed the mimic on my Elegoo Mars UV Resin printer. If you’re in the market for a resin printer, I highly recommend that one, and if you already one I highly recommend the Elegoo UV Resin. It has minimal odor and I’ve had great success with it.
Painting
I did a super quick and basic paint job on the model.
- Base coat of brown acrylic craft paint on the door
- Base coat of dark red painted on the mimic’s tongue
- Off white base coat on the mimic’s teeth and door knob
- Dry brush light brown on the raised portions of the door
- Dry brush red on the mimic’s tongue
- Dry brush white on the mimic’s teeth
Once the paint was dried, I sealed it with a spray matte clear coat.
3D Printed Door Mimic
The door mimic was a request from my DM. Not sure when (or if) it’ll hit the table.
